In class today, I returned the generalization and Essential Question (EQ) practice - you received either a P, S or a U. "P"means you are right on track, "S" means you are on your way, but you have a bit to work on, and "U" means that there may be a misunderstanding, some confusion or lack of understanding which impacts your ability to demonstrate you knowledge. "U's" The Bell Ringer and Classwork can be found on the attachments posted below. Please read through the essential question handout (Bell Ringer). The questions posed lead us down a path of discussion how we see people as individuals or as part of a group. Ultimately that is how we see people - as individual or as part of a group. Please read over the notes from class. We had a discussion about what constitutes a generalization and what is needed for support. The homework listed below will allow for further practice. Please read the HW document - the whole document. Use the model to complete your homework.

In class today, we looked at a number of responses to the retest practice homework. In groups, students evaluated sample answers and decided on a grade. I have attached the samples and a scoring sheet. The scoring sheet indicates that "A" would receive a "2.5", but I would have given this a 2 since the student did not state why the other words would not work.

We reviewed the retest practice homework. Answer Key posted here.

Remember to get a "3", you need to...
1. Identify the correct word.
2. Include the definition, in some way, as part of the paragraph - connect it to text - not in isolation.
3. Provide clear support - specific evidence from text.
4. Show how the other words could not be the best choice.

When selecting the words, keep in mind..
1. The definition of each word
2. The evidence to support each words
3. The evidence against each word
